Copy and paste with X Windows
Copy and paste can be used with X Windows. Simple text can
be copied and pasted between X application windows and between X
applications and Windows applications.
Copying from X windows
- Select text using the left mouse button. The selected text is immediately
available in the copy buffer.
- To paste into an X window, move the mouse to the window where the text
is to be placed, and click for focus. Your next move depends on
whether you have a 3-buttoned mouse and launched X to use a 3-buttoned
mouse. If so, click on the middle mouse button. If you have a 2-buttoned
mouse or if you launched X to use a 2-buttoned mouse, then click at the
same time both the left and right mouse buttons.
- To paste into a Windows application, move to the appropriate window,
click for focus and paste as is normal for the application.
Copying from Windows
- Select text as normal from the window of a Windows application.
- To paste into an X window, move the mouse to the window where the text
is to be placed, and click for focus. Your next move depends on
whether you have a 3-buttoned mouse and launched X to use a 3-buttoned
mouse. If so, click on the middle mouse button. If you have a 2-buttoned
mouse or if you launched X to use a 2-buttoned mouse, then click at the
same time both the left and right mouse buttons.
